THE GALWAY MUSIC RESIDENCY
WELCOME TO OUR 10TH ANNIVERSARY SEASON 2012 is a very special year for The Galway Music Residency! This year we celebrate 10 years of wonderful music in Galway City, County, the Islands and beyond. We celebrate friendships – old and new. We celebrate music. The overall theme for this anniversary year is retrospection and each of the various elements of our programme are intertwined in a year of reflection and celebration. The programme for each monthly lunchtime concert will reflect on a specific year in the life of the residency. The tour and the festival will see the return of some of our favourite guest artists to play with the Galway Ensemble in Residence, ConTempo Quartet and our special anniversary CD will feature live recordings from our most fabled concerts throughout the decade capturing the magical essence of The Galway Music Residency. This year we will also look to the future with plans to make new friends and develop more exciting opportunities and platforms for music and musicians in Galway and beyond. Our new Composer-in-Residence Initiative is one such platform which will be launched in June in a bid to find an exciting new composer who will write a special celebratory work in honour of our 10th Birthday. As part of the commission, our composer in residence will take part in our education programme before premiering at our Birthday Festival.
