Message From The Chair
Dear Friends,
On behalf of the Board of The Galway Music Residency, I welcome you to our 2011/12 season. It’s been one year since we launched and rebranded the organisation and what a successful one it has been! At the heart of the residency, The Galway Ensemble in Residence, ConTempo Quartet continued to inspire young musicians, introduced music to young school children, and assisted secondary school students prepare for the Leaving Cert, mentored 3 apprentice ensembles and brought the joy of music to audiences in Galway City, County Galway and around Ireland.
Our new season will also be very exciting and inspiring with ConTempo touring Kilkenny and Wexford with guitarist Alec O’Leary in the autumn. We look forward to discovering and nurturing more apprentice ensembles and we aim to continue to grow our education programme with more workshops and performances in local schools. One of the joys of our programme each year is our free Lunchtime Concert Series and we are delighted to announce that following a wonderful two years in The Galway City Library we will present the series in a new location – The Town Hall Theatre.
I want to say thank you to our sponsors – The Arts Council, National University of Ireland, Galway, Galway University Foundation, Bank of Ireland, Galway City Council, Galway County Council and Friends of The Galway Music Residency for making this season possible. I also gratefully acknowledge the valuable partnerships we have with local arts and community organisations, schools, teachers, and venues. It is truly wonderful to work with all of them.
Thank you for your interest in The Galway Music Residency and I look forward to welcoming you to our events.
Sincerely,
Bernard Kirk
Chairman, The Galway Music Residency
