The Galway Ensemble in Residence: ConTempo Quartet
The internationally acclaimed ConTempo Quartet began their work as Galway’s ensemble in residence nine years ago and celebrates its 16th anniversary as a string quartet this year. Last season, ConTempo presented workshops to nearly 2,000 primary and secondary school students; gave 50 performances in Galway City, County and around Ireland and collaborated with ten national and international stellar musicians. Their wonderful and exciting performances and their love for teaching young people continue in our 2011/12 season. Don’t miss ConTempo performing “Mozart’s Ten Most Celebrated String Quartets” at our monthly Lunchtime Concert Series; three very special collaborations with Timo Kinuneen, Alec O’Leary and Paul Roe; plus free performances at various venues throughout the city and county.
ConTempo String Quartet was formed in 1995 in Bucharest, Romania. Recognised as one of the world’s top string quartets, ConTempo has won a record of 14 International Prizes and performed more that 1,000 concerts all over the world, including Wigmore Hall, Carnegie Hall, Berliner Philarmoniker, Theatre Chatelet in Paris, Opera House in Tel Aviv, Gedai Hall in Tokyo and Palazzo Quirinale in Rome.
“It is with great pleasure that we invite - Galway - our favorite audience - to join us in exploring a new repertoire and enjoying the renewed energy of our residency.”
