The Galway Music Residency’s Autumn 3 Saturdays: 3 Kinds of music series continues this Saturday 14th October at 11am. This unique set of concerts features the Galway ConTempo Quartet and some of Ireland’s best young musicians.
Following a captivating opening concert on the 30 September, the series continues on 14 October at 11am in the urban surrounds of the series' new home, the Niland Gallery. The audience, as ever, will experience an eclectic mix of classical, contemporary and Irish traditional music. The Galway ConTempo Quartet will continue their exploration of ‘Three Great Classical Masters’, performing Mozart’s ‘The Hunt’ String Quartet.
This week’s concert will also include members of Neil Ó Loclainn’s contemporary trad ensemble CUAR featuring Neil on bass and flute and Matthew Berrill on clarinet. These three young musicians – rooted in the Irish tradition embrace everything from south Indian classical to minimalism to downtown jazz – finding their way over new terrain. We will also hear from traditional Irish musician John Blake who will focus on the flute and whistle styles of Connaught, from the wild hills of Leitrim through Coleman Country in Sligo and down through the flowing styles of Roscommon and East Galway.
Supported by NUI Galway, the Arts Council, Galway City and County Councils and GMIT, admission to these events are free, open to all, family friendly and early arrival is recommended. Donations are welcome. This series will conclude on 4 November.
