In association with music school Maoin Cheoil na Gaillimhe, the Galway Music Residency (GMR) presents its Apprentice Ensemble Winter Concert this Saturday 17th December in St Mary’s College at 4pm. The Apprentice Ensemble scheme, now in its 11th year, offers frequent mentoring sessions with ConTempo Quartet and performing opportunities to emerging, talented young performing groups. This year, the ConTempo Quartet have been working with Miriam Kaczor (flute) and Lorna Breen (soprano), a wonderful duo who met at the Royal Irish Academy of Music in 2014 and have been exploring rare works for flute and voice ever since.
In teaming up with Maoin Cheoil na Gaillimhe (MCnG), we wish to use this winter concert as an opportunity to showcase the progression of music tuition from early learner through to professional musician. The concert will include performances from Amar Debiasi (age 9) and Laoise McMullen (age 16), both piano students of MCnG, Miriam and Lorna – GMR’s current Apprentice Ensemble, previous Apprentice programme participant Gavin Brennan and ConTempo Quartet. Complimentary mulled wine and mince pies will be provided.
