The Galway Music Residency and the MA in Writing at NUI Galway present a very special performance on Thursday 6th December at 7pm in the Aula Maxima in The Quadrangle, NUI Galway.
Since the beginning of the academic year, the Galway Music Residency with the ConTempo Quartet have been working with the students of the MA in Writing at NUI Galway to visit old works, musical and literary, and to create the new. In the intimate setting of the Aula Maxima, the 6th December event will see ConTempo joined by students of Creative Writing who will showcase the work that emerged from encounters with inspirational music, composers and performers. Join these exceptional talents and artists for a glass of wine and a unique and relaxed evening combining music, literature and the practices that link notes and words.
Dr John Kenny, director of the MA in Writing at NUI Galway, remarked on the event: ‘We are now now in the fifth year of collaboration with the Galway Music Residency and ConTempo on our Creative Writing programmes here. There are vital and enduring parallels between the arts of musical and literary composition, and our writing students have benefitted enormously from engagement with these extraordinary musicians, who are themselves remarkably articulate in narrating their art form.’
Works performed by the ConTempo Quartet will include Brahms, Jane O’Leary and Chiel Meijering. The students of the MA in writing will present new works of poetry, fiction and non-fiction that have been borne out of this collaboration, demonstrating how music can shape our words and our stories.
Tickets cost €10/€5 and can be purchased at www.eventbrite.ie
