CONTEMPOraneous celebrates Brían Bourke
In celebration of Connemara-based artist Brían Bourke in his 80th year, The Galway ConTempo Quartet will perform a very special concert during his exhibition, Obsessions – Preoccupations – Themes and Variation, in the Galway Arts Centre on Thursday 9th June at 6pm.
Initiated by The Galway Music Residency, over the past number of months Brían has been sketching The Galway ConTempo Quartet in his studio during rehearsals, capturing the energy and dynamism of the Quartet’s magnificent playing and being inspired and directed by their performances to create new work. Over several months, a rapport developed as music was played and art work was created. The results can be seen in the larger exhibition running from June 3rd – July 2nd at the Galway Arts Centre.
To celebrate this collaboration between The Galway ConTempo Quartet and Brian Bourke, this special event promoted by The Galway Music Residency at the Galway Arts Centre will see ConTempo perform the inspirational music – movements from quartets by Schubert, Beethoven and Debussy – surrounded by the finished drawings and paintings of themselves. This unique collaborative event, bringing Galway's ensemble in residence together with one of Ireland's most distinguished visual artists, is open to the public.
ConTempo/raneous is a series of collaborative events, developed by The Galway Music Residency, inspired by The Galway ConTempo Quartet, featuring Brían Bourke, NUI Galway Creative Writing students and Galway Dance Days.
