Apprentice Ensembles 2018/19

This year ConTempo Quartet has been working with four exceptionally gifted groups of up-and-coming musicians based both locally and nationally. Each ensemble worked with two members of ConTempo over a 9 month period and performed in two concerts, both held in the Emily Anderson Concert Hall in NUI Galway.

Incantato String Quartet

The Incantato String Quartet hail from DIT’s Conservatory of Music Drama and was formed under the mentorship of Keith Pascoe. The players of the quartet are Inana Garis (1st violin), Anna McKenna (2nd violin), Dionne Tims (viola) and Peadar O Loinsigh (cello). For their final performance they treated the audience to a rendition of the third movement of Ravel's String Quartet in F major.

Incantato worked with Adrian and Andreea.

Dina Ryan & Aoife Moran

Clarinet and Piano Duo, Dina Ryan and Aoife Moran also studied at DIT where they have just completed the final year of their degree programme. They worked with Andreea and Ingrid during their time as an apprentice ensemble and also took a masterclass with clarinetist Emma Johnson thanks to Music for Galway. They performed two movements of Schumann's Fantasiestucke op.73 for clarinet and piano for their final performance in the Emily Anderson Concert Hall.

Dina and Aoife worked with Bogdan and Ingrid.

Aoife will be studying in the Guildhall School of Music, London, for a masters next year.

Aged between 10 and 12 years, the four members of this quartet - Rex Roddy (violin), Diarmuid Hancock (violin), Sean Hancock (viola) & Euan Farrell (cello), possess talent and determination well beyond their years. The quartet worked with Ingrid and Bogdan

They performed works from Handel, Haydn and a traditional piece arranged by Gerard Manning for their final performance. Click here to hear their performance of Haydn's Allegro in G.

The boys first met in Coole Music Discovery Orchestra in 2015 and have been playing together as a quartet since and we wish them every success in their playing in the years to come.
