ConTempo teams up with NUIG Orchestra

The Galway ConTempo Quartet worked with the NUI Galway Concert Orchestra during the spring semester through sectional tutorials and orchestral rehearsals to assist in developing a beautiful concert repertoire. On Saturday 21st April, GMR was delighted to present the Galway ConTempo Quartet as part of NUI Galway Concert Orchestra's Spring Concert in the Black Box Theatre, where this hard work came to fruition.

During the first half of the concert, the orchestra showcased some of the classical repertoire they have been perfecting over several months. This was followed by a trad/jazz fusion performed by 3 Saturdays: 3 Kinds of Music musicians Máirtín O'Connor and Mike Nielsen alongside conductor Matthew Berrill. The second half, which was live-streamed to thousands of NUI Galway students, staff and alumni, focused on film. ConTempo performed a programme of well know movie themes including Schindler's List, The Godfather, Scent of a Woman and Cinema Paradiso. They then joined the orchestra for a rousing finale with works including Harry Potter and the Order of Phoenix, Beauty and the Beast and The Lord of the Rings.

The event was a true celebration of music and collaboration and GMR was honoured to support it.
