GMR announces Apprentice for 2018/19
The Galway Music Residency (GMR) is delighted to announce four new Apprentice Ensembles will take part in its 2018/19 Apprentice Ensemble Programme.
The Incantato String Quartet, the Euterpe Wind Quintet and Clarinet and Piano Duo Dina Ryan and Aoife Moran have been chosen to work with ConTempo over the period of nine months starting in September, developing their musicianship and ensemble skills. The members of these ensembles are currently in third level and post graduate programmes, working towards careers in performance. In addition, GMR has offered its first ever ‘junior ensemble’ place on the programme to the Voldemort String Quartet, a young ensemble (ages 10-12) hailing from Coole Music School in Gort, County Galway.
The Apprentice Programme, now in its 13th year, is rooted in GMR’s commitment to community and education projects and provides advanced instrumental students and young professionals an opportunity to further their experience of ensemble playing. During their time on the programme, the four ensembles will be mentored and advised on a monthly basis by members of ConTempo Quartet, while exploring classical and contemporary repertoire. This programme is offered to the participants for free and aims to accelerate their learning as professional musicians, third level students and now young instrumentalists.
In addition, GMR is delighted to announce that it will be partnering with Music for Galway in 2018/19 to deliver additional workshops to the Apprentice Ensembles with visiting national and international artists as part of Music for Galway’s International Concert Season.
Galway audiences will have its first opportunity to hear GMR’s Apprentice Ensembles in January 2019. Details to follow.
