IAMIC 2016 welcomed to Galway

The Galway Music Residency is delighted to be working with the Contemporary Music Centre (CMC) and Concorde Ensemble by providing musicians and performances for the annual meeting and conference of the International Association of Music Information Centres (IAMIC), hosted this year by CMC at NUI Galway.

To mark the opening of the IAMIC meeting, a reception will be held in the Galway City Museum at 6pm featuring young musicians from TGMR’s Apprentice Ensemble Programme. The Aurora Duo (Katie Hyland, flute & Fiona Gryson, harp) will perform Eric Sweeney’s Walk/Don’t Walk and the OAK Duo (Orlaith McHugh, violin & Katie Neville, guitar) will perform Maria Minguella’s Buon Viaggio.

There will be ‘pop-up’ performances at 3:45pm in the Orbsen Building, NUI Galway featuring musicians from Concorde on both Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th June.

On Saturday 11th June, The Galway Music Residency in association with the Contemporary Music Centre and RTÉ LyricFM presents SOUND PASSING, a concert of contemporary music from the island of Ireland. The highlight of this event will be the premiere of Calmly Awaiting the End, a new work commemorating the life of patriot and piper Eamonn Ceannt, the Galway-born signatory of the 1916 proclamation. For further information see here.

A Music Trail on Monday 13th June starting at 5pm from the Martin Ryan Institute, NUI Galway, will conclude the IAMIC annual meeting & conference. The audience will be guided throughout the campus to hear performances by The Galway ConTempo Quartet, Paul Roe and Grace Kiely of works by Ed Bennett, Deirdre McKay, Jane O'Leary and Dave Flynn.
