New Beginnings: BA in Music at NUI Galway

GMR was delighted to work with NUI Galway and Dr Aidan Thomson on the launch of the new BA in Music at the university on Tuesday 9 October. The establishment of this 4-year degree programme is a monumental moment in the musical life of Galway and the West of Ireland and it was celebrated to the highest degree on Tuesday.

Dr Aidan Thomson, director of the the programme, composer Dr Jane O’Leary, and Dean of Arts, Social Sciences and Celtic Studies, Professor Cathal O’Donoghue spoke at the launch providing the context that emphasises the importance of this moment in Galway's cultural history.

To close the evening, ConTempo Quartet and Galway uilleann piper Pádraig Keane performed a repertoire that brought the attendees of the launch on a journey from traditional music to classical string quartet repertoire.

GMR is delighted to be working with Dr Thomson throughout the academic year, presenting ConTempo in a series of workshops focusing on the history of music. We look forward to a long and exciting partnership with the Department of Music, and all the exciting projects that will come with it.
