Sym-phonic Waves

The Galway Music Residency is delighted to announce it will be working with the new youth orchestral initiative Sym-phonic Waves, an exciting new opportunity for young musicians in the West of Ireland. The fabulous ConTempo String Quartet will play a key role in the tuition of these musicians.

Sym-phonic Waves is the first project from the Galway European Capital of Culture 2020 programme underway and will work towards establishing a youth symphony orchestra for the West of Ireland. Galway and Roscommon Education and Training Board as lead partner of the Galway Music Education Partnership has successfully applied for Erasmus+ funding for a summer exchange programme with the German string orchestra, Schoenbuch Strings to take place in August in 2017 here in Galway.

2017 is the first of a 4 year project and will focus exclusively on Strings, adding wind, brass and percussion in the coming years to form a full youth symphony orchestra for the West of Ireland. It is therefore now calling for string players from ages 13-23 to audition.

Auditions will be held on Sunday 5th February in Coláiste Baile Chláir, Claregalway, Co Galway. Audition pieces available to download on the Sym-Phonic Waves facebook page forms are available by email from Closing date Friday 20 January 2017. See Audition Notice here for further information!
