Connecting the Dots
Ballinasloe Active Retirement Association (BARA), the Galway Music Residency (GMR) with its resident artists ConTempo Quartet, artist Finbar McHugh and Ballinasloe Library present Connecting the Dots, an intergenerational project connecting primary school children with older generations through Sound, Music and Art. Through a number of facilitated workshops, with GMR’s ConTempo Quartet and Finbar McHugh, the participants, young and old, will work together in a simple way creating visual representations of their collective experience of sound and music through the quartet’s demonstrations and performances. Focusing on ‘Meitheal’, this project brings two generations together to exchange ideas, build connections, learn from one another and create together. In addition to this, members of the European immigrant communities in Galway will be invited as special guests to the workshops to allow the group to explore the issues of immigration, migration, assimilation and humanity through their experience of creation.
GMR has begun working with the Westside, Ballybane and City Libraries on a book club project for communities who want to explore the written word in a new way. This Lifelong Learning Book Club looks at text with the added dimension of relating it to musical performance which is facilitated by the ConTempo Quartet.
The Lifelong Learning Book Club is currently looking at Fermata, a collection of poetry about music.
